Community members who participate in the event enjoy an evening of entertainment, often with an educational component mixed in.  Some of the arts groups use this as an opportunity to raise awareness of the art or artists whose work is on display.  The Pacific Art League for example, typically ties in programs to First Friday events, where participants have the chance to meet the artist and learn more about the work. “I can really develop a deeper appreciation for what I’m looking at when I understand the artist's intention.” explains Katie Isselhardt, a recent Art Walk participant,  “It makes the experience more meaningful”.
